The town of Pliska is situated in the south end of the Loudogorie Plateau. It is 24 km north-east of Shumen, 6 km north-west of Kaspichan, 6 km west of Novi Pazar, and 2 km south of the remains of the first Bulgarian capital of the same name. The oldest source of information about Pliska is the inscription on the stone columns of 821(Khan Omurtag�s) in the vicinity of the village of the Chatalar(at present Tsar Kolum railway station).
