The city of Varna is located in North-East Bulgaria.The region is hilly and along the river, valleys of mountain slopes rundown in terraces. Interesting places to visit are the dense riparian forests in the river valleys of Kamchia and Batova, Provadia River, the caves near the village of Beloslav. The unique natural formation of upright stones(Pobitite Kamani) west of Varna. The area is rich in ground and karsts water. There two lakes beside the sea – Varna and Beloslavsko, connected in 1923 by a navigable canal. There is mineral water rich in iodine near Varna and the valley of Kamchia River. It is third largest city after Sofia and Plovdiv.

Some interesting places to visit near Varna is Golden Sands and Aladzha rock monastery. It hosted Hesychasts in 12th century and has an interesting history. Nowadays only a small part of the frescoes are preserved but the experience of being in a monastery nestled on a high steep rock is unforgettable. The monastery is declared a cultural sight and houses a small museum.
